About
About:
James Goodchild is a photographic image maker and educator, whose work is inspired by literature and poetry. A Flâneur with a keen interest in phenomenology, and psychogeography he immerses himself in his surroundings, whether it be the streets of Paris or the mountains of Wales. He possesses an unfaltering curiosity, searching for what can never be found, observing the people and details around him, capturing images that contain surrealist undertones to articulate emotion in the viewer. After being a photography course leader for ten years he began to pursue his personal work after successfully graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in 2017. He is currently studying for a practice-led PhD at the University of Leeds.
Postgraduate Practice-Led Researcher, PhD, University of Leeds, School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies.
“James Goodchild's black and white set of photographs are outstanding in their originality. A really stylish and intriguing approach to landscape photography which is refreshing to see.” Fiona Shields : Head of Photography at the Guardian.
“…they become not so much pictures of a place but pictures that evoke a certain feeling of being in a place, of being a little lost but finding ones way through the darkness, always looking for something just out of sight.” Olivia Arthur : Magnum Photographer.
